Fiji uses Type I plugs (the same as Australia and New Zealand), with a standard voltage of 240V. If you’re coming from another region, bring a universal adapter to charge your devices.
Don’t miss trying Fijian specialties like kokoda (marinated raw fish in coconut milk), lovo (a traditional underground oven feast), and cassava. Local markets in Nadi and Suva are great places to sample fresh tropical fruits.
Bring your snorkeling gear if you have it, as Fiji’s coral reefs are among the best in the world. Popular spots include the Coral Coast and the Yasawa Islands. If you’re diving, ensure your resort or dive shop is PADI-certified.
Taxis and buses are the main modes of transport on the main islands. Use metered taxis where possible or negotiate fares before starting your journey. For island-hopping, ferries and private boats are available.
Stick to bottled or filtered water, especially if you’re visiting rural areas or smaller islands. Most resorts provide safe drinking water, but it’s better to err on the side of caution.
Fiji’s dry season from May to October is the best time to visit, offering sunny days, lower humidity, and cooler evenings. This is ideal for outdoor activities like snorkeling and hiking. The wet season, November to April, brings tropical rain but fewer tourists and discounted rates.
The local currency is the Fijian Dollar (FJD). Credit cards are widely accepted in resorts and cities, but carry cash for smaller shops, local markets, and rural areas. ATMs are available in urban areas like Nadi and Suva.
Pack lightweight, breathable clothing for Fiji’s warm climate. Don’t forget reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect against the sun, along with comfortable sandals for exploring. If you’re visiting during the wet season, a light rain jacket is useful.
When visiting villages, dress modestly—cover your shoulders and knees as a sign of respect. Always remove your hat when entering a village, as wearing one is seen as a sign of disrespect.
Fiji has good mobile coverage in urban areas, but reception can be limited on outer islands. Consider purchasing a local SIM card from Vodafone or Digicel for affordable data and calls during your stay.
